Jewelry is admittedly not my forte :bag:

I dont have a picture of the backing, I can get one tuesday, along with better pictures.
Theres no gold markings but my boss seems to think its gold and possibly diamonds.

What style and age is this brooch as best you can tell?

Lovely! Jewelry certainly isn't my forte either. If diamonds and gold, I suspect a Victorian cluster brooch with a timeframe of 1880s to early 1900s? I can't see the diamonds well enough to determine if they are the old rose cut. I think I see a bit of a "table" on one of the diamonds which probably means not rose cut? The gold almost looks like old rose gold, but then it is probably the lighting.

I think it's later. The diamonds look too bright for old cut. But we do indeed need the back.

Your right OBB, they do look too bright. With the flat bottom of the rose cut, they weren't known for being bright.

A photo of the clasp may really help with narrowing down the age of this. What are the dimensions (approx) by the way?

Post WW2 would be my thought, too.

I'll have to get the dimensions Tuesday as well. Of the top of my head I want to say around 2.75-3.25" ...but don't quote me on that..
I've only handled it briefly twice

Okay, here's a couple more pictures
It's double stamped 14k and someone put a diamond tester to it and it said they were real.
Idk how reliable those are though

It appears to be a one of a kind brooch, the craftsmanship looks somewhat sloppy. There is too much light reflection to tell exactly how it was made, what is the thickness of the base plate?

It looks hand made to me....& you'll need to get those stones graded.....as I believe this piece to be even better than you think it is.......IMHO !

Ha...what you call sloppy ....perhaps on the back.....I call delightful work....on the front !

Guess you don't have experience in making quality jewelry, even with the sub par photo the lower quality is plainly visible. The base is handmade and the prong settings look commercial.

    14 K gold...& real nice looking diamonds....& a lovely design that's a real eye catcher .
I can forgive a hand cut backing that's a little off in some places .......
Can you forgive yourself for being so sour...!!

    Sub par photo ????

SeaGoat....I think those photo's are just FINE, thank you !!!

Sour?,no just realistic and experienced with fine jewelry. It would have been tossed into the recycle bin as a reject long before the prong settings were soldered onto the base.

I can try and get better pictures in daylight, this was taken last night night when I got home from work.

It doesn't bother me that this is inferior jewelry. Us peasants need something we can afford. :D

    Im still thinking 1940s?

Lovely thing. I'd think slightly later, perhaps 1950s. I could see that selling very well here. Nice diamonds for one thing.

Hm. Depends on the gold weight and diamond carat. I'd have said a bit less - maybe top end of £300 to £500 here. That's auction.
