Agate snuff box (?) what age?

    Hello all, happy Friday! Picked this little guy up at auction. Have seen similar online but they vary drastically in the information about them, some listings saying 18th century, others 19th and early 20th century. I assume agate and onyx maybe. Is it a snuff box or pill box? It measures 2"L x 1.6"W x 06"H. Info appreciated as always. Thank you!

    The lid is closer to qualifying for jasper than for agate, although I could see making the case for it. The line between jasper & agate is fuzzy; both are forms of chalcedony. Bottom is black onyx, chalcedony that has been dyed.

    The borderline is whether it is opaque or not. You can see the categorizing problem here.
