    Hi all

Not sure if I am doing this right as it is my first post.Sorry in advance.
I wanted to see if anyone could share some information on this snuff bottle I have acquired.I believe it to be agate but I may be wrong. It is hollow and doesn't have a stopper. It is about 5.7cm in height and about 5cm in width. Thanks George

It really looks like glass to me. The dark swirls around the opening are a big clue. Nice find!
I'm sure more folks will chime in soon!

Why do you think it is agate and not glass?

Don't know if it's glass or agate. I wouldn't dismiss agate as a possibility. I think the chip at the mouth is not particularly glass-like. The seal may mean that it was officially cleared for export.

The auction house I acquired it from described it as agate.Looking online has made me have more questions than answers hence the reason I joined this forum to try and get some answers.LOL

Give it a good washing and dry with a lint free cloth.Either it's dirty and dusty or it's full of air bubbles.New photo after washing would help.

I'm with @Bronwen. The conical rim chip and fuzzy outline of the dark bit is more like glass.

Welcome gks, nice snuff bottle. Missing stopper doesn't matter that much.
I'm with the others, glass. The Peking (Beijing) glass makers were very good at making imitation stone bottles. Other materials too, I have a glass 'tortoiseshell' snuff bottle, it looks very convincing.
    Absolutely!
Not every seller is good at determining materials.
