This is a piece I'm researching and trying to determine age, origin, and function. I was told it is bird stand. It stands a tad over 4 ft tall. The carving features alligators, deer, and tribal masks on both sides. I'm also curious as to the type of wood, it's rather heavy. I estimate the weight around 20-25 pounds. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Joe

Sure looks like a perch for a bird to me too. 1970s probably. I'd guess Pacific islands rather than Africa, but value that opinion at what you paid for it. It's one of those things you buy if you like it and have a use for it.

Hummm, could be Pacific...but it's too dark for me to see the animals.
