Call me crazy, but I like it. Have you taken it out of the frame to see if theres a signature under that mat?
You are not crazy Johnny...Not that this is considered great art...Most New art is rarely appreciated,at first...This reminds me of something between Basquiat & Bevis & Butthead...The frame is handmade & I will wait to take it out...
I can't guess who did it but now I want to see the other one. I'm ok with the art. I love the frame and mat job. Maybe some young artist's grandpa woodworked that frame?
I'm sensing a bit of an isolationist mentality, along with an unfulfilled desire to conform. The second piece is particularly interesting, as is the repetition of the head in profile - possibly a self portrait??
I wonder what the separated heads are supposed to symbolize? The more I look, the more I like them both.
Eh, suppose they'd probably be considered 'outsider art' - second piece reminds me a bit of some Lee Godie pieces... ~Cheryl
I sort of wonder if they they might actually be signed. Look at the bottom right of the first one and the symbol on the face of the second.
The High Museum of Art in Atlanta recently had a contemporary art exhibit including a whole room of Basquiat. There was another artist represented and it certainly looked a lot like this. Let me see if I can find my brochure.
You know - he rarely signed his work. I think you should send the images to a museum like the High that specializes in this type of contemporary art. They go for millions.
I couldn't live with it, but I do like Basquiat's work. I find it a bit unsettling - too many conflicting emotions I think..... or maybe its undefined or unexplored emotions...........
