Hello all. I am very happy to have found you all, as I am a very old lady (90 last month) and I have been collecting and trying to learn about antiques and art for most of my life. When I see something that looks interesting and beautiful, I acquire it if I can, and then research like mad to find out exactly what it is. Right now I am trying to determine exactly what I have, prior to bequeathing things to people and museums. My attorney insists I document everything thoroughly, so I have begun photographing everything of interest.
Thank you so much for joining us, Dian. Lots of knowledgable people here who will be willing/able to help you with your project. Debora
Greetings Dian. Love to see your stuff. Are you going to use a camera or a phone? The reason I ask is that uploading photos here often is consternating to new members. Since I am eager to see your collection, I would like to offer some suggestions based on how you will approach your effort.
Thank you for your welcomes. I will try to post pictures of a Japanese porcelain plate I bought at a flea market about 20 years ago. I have no idea what it is or when it was made. Right now I am waiting for help from my I T advisor who will help me figure out how to post pictures. I hope to have it for you in about an hour.
If you have difficulty, let us know. As above, lots of new members have difficulty posting photographs. There's help here if you need it. Debora
Welcome, Dian! With all the knowledge you’ve undoubtedly amassed in your years of collecting, I’m sure you’ll be a wonderful addition to the group.
Welcome to the forums! Let us know how it goes. I have heard that getting items accessioned into a permanent collection is a fairly complex process since museums and such are often offered vast quantities of items from the public that far exceed their preservation abilities and mission statements. I knew a few people that were successful though in donating local history items to an regional university.
Welcome to the Forum, DianDV! Here’s some tips on uploading photos: https://www.antiquers.com/threads/making-a-post-and-uploading-pictures.16038/ People are always willing to help with that.
