The article “Gatling Gun Shoot” contains photos of a 24-pounder siege and seacoast cannon I owned until I sold the collection at two auctions a few years ago. The gun had an interesting history I discovered while researching it in the National Archives. It was part of the armament of Fort Mcree in Pensacola Harbor, FL. until the guns were removed and the fort was evacuated by the Confederates early in the Civil War. The entire island under the fort gradually washed away and no longer exists.

I didn't know about this fort. I just got a thin book'let' on Fort Jefferson which I had learned about in a mystery by Nevada Barr. I don't read her any more though after some disparaging remarks about Marines in another. :(

Have you seen The Rifleman episode in which a Gatling is used to try and kill a senator?

Vaguely recall it, but I’m sure with Chuck Connors around, he saved the day!
