Hi, I have a whats it, does anyone know what it is? My friends who own it and I came up with some possibilities but we are not sure. Is it for manicure, an eraser for old letters or is it for taking stitches out of a seam?

It measures 2-3/16" closed, 3-3/16" opened and 1/4" where to top stone is.

I have tested it and it is 10K gold filled and it is very well made. Came down through their family and probably dates from around 1900. The stone on the top is carnelian.

Does anyone know what it is?

Agree, retractable toothpick. We weren't so picky about hygiene back in the day.

I have an antique Chinese sterling piece with an earwax scoop on the other end. No, I don't use it, but I would.

Yep, it's a carnelian finial, it tests just into the quartz range on my gem tester.

Thank you everyone for your replies :shame:
