Bingo was his Name-o! (LOL) The antique store had no clue. I saw the Rookwood mark and knew it was better than the original $8 price tag.

Very nice find! Knowing you, you already ditched it, without having to ship it, and you're rolling in the dough!! ;) :joyful:

That was the price they had it up for this week; the cat wasn't there went I went through a week ago. Or if it was no one noticed.

I'll probably sell it locally, not for anything close to $250 but the other dealer has to make a buck too so he can buy OTHER stuff later. :greedy::greedy::greedy::cat::cat::cat:

It really pays to always look over items closely for markings even on items that on first glance may appear to be inconsequential.

It also is very useful to look for valuable items "outside of their natural habitat". For example Rookwood marks may be common knowledge to every antique dealer, flipper, and wannabe in Ohio and surrounding states, people in other areas of the nation might not know that marking.

Apparently not - one more reason to watch the Roadshow! I looked because Kitty is close to a dead match for a ceramic cat I picked up at an estate sale the other week. That one wasn't marked, but... Kitty. Then I looked at the bottom and OOK. Rookwood for $8 and "I'll take this please"!

One of my "Ruth Rules" is: buy jewelry from the toy dealer and toys from the tool guy. I.e. from someone who is a reputable person but wants to unload the things outside of his specialty and who knows less than you do.

It surprised me that an antique store manager didn't know that mark. It was the owner's tag! They do mostly furniture and rugs.
