Featured A few of my souvenir spoons

    Years ago, my grandmother gave me her collection of souvenir spoons. Here are a few of them, and the only ones mounted in a frame (they are held in place with silk thread), and the identification notes she had for them (transcribed from original document in her handwriting):

    Souvenir Spoons in Frame

    Top row – left to right
    1. Berlin – (Brandenburger Tor) – 800 REU.
    2. Holland – “Nederland”– 800 REU.
    3. Shakespeare – Shakespeare’s House – made in Birmingham, England – 1903-04.
    4. Geneve – (Switzerland) – 800 S.M. – Depose.
    5. “E.R. VII” – in bowl – Edward and Alexandra “Crowned 1902” on handle – hallmark not identified.
    6. Havana – (hallmark illegible).
    7. Bad Hurlsburg (Germany) – Reich silver mark – 800.
    8. “R.M.S. Mauretania” – Made in Birmingham, England, 1907-08.
    9. London – “St. Paul’s” – Made in Birmingham, England,1911-12.

    3 horizontal spoons – left side
    1. (top) – Coffee spoon – marked “sterling” but made in England – date not specified.
    2. (middle) – Harvard University – marked “sterling” – no date of make given.
    3. (bottom) – Toronto – marked 925 – sterling but made in England.

    3 horizontal spoons – right side
    1. (top) – Saratoga – marked “sterling” – (no date).
    2. (middle) – Montreal, Canada – “Lachine Rapids” – marked “sterling” – made in 1901.
    3. (bottom) – Anvers - (France) – made in Germany – Reich silver mark – 800.

    Bottom row – left to right
    1. Wolfville – marked “sterling” but made in Germany.
    2. Westminster Abbey – made in Birmingham, England – 1920-21. On the back of the handle is inscribed “to Mr. and Mrs. N from London”.
    3. Hamburg – “Jungfernstieg” in bowl – 800.
    4. Baden-Baden (on back of handle) – 800.
    5. Munchen – (Germany) – 800.
    6. Bern – (Switzerland) – Reich silver mark – 800. E S Geschutzi – maker.
    7. Avranches – (France) – “Mont St. Michel” in bowl. 800 – other marks not identified.
    8. Karlsbad – (Germany) – Reich silver mark.
    9. Kingston – (Jamaica) – marked “sterling” – made in 1903.

    Neat! The ones with the colored images in the bowls are new to me!

    I didn't read all of your descriptions.

    Used to be enamel bowl spoons had a higher value than regular souvenir spoons.

    Very nice collection.

    Lovely collection, Frank. And so good that she had detailed descriptions with them.
    The 'Nederland' one is made in Germany, in spite of the Dutch theme. Germany made souvenir spoons for several countries.

    Very nice, Frank! What a cool way to display them, too. I love the horizontal rows in the middle - most unusual.

    I'm a bit amazed that Bern and Anvers should have a "Reich silver mark".

    Made in Germany, just like the Dutch one. Germany made these for many countries.
