A few furniture finds/Q's

First up...a mirror, just wondering about its age/style. It piqued my curiosity. I'm just wondering how old it looks to you guys. I can try to get photos of the back tomorrow but this is all I could get today.



Next is an advice request...should I buy this glass top end table for $30? It's not exactly my taste though I do think it looks nice. and for practicality's sake I would prefer it not be glass, but if I was going to resell...it does seem more lucrative than something darker brown.


Lastly, I'm wondering about this little end table thing. I quite like the look of the base. The top swivels, but my colleague thinks that's just because the screw could be loose and that it may not be the original top for the table. I don't know. Any insights? I'm not the greatest at dating furniture like this.

Agree with Deco period for the first item, which is a mirror that belongs over a matching dresser. I also agree with @komokwa that it's the only saleable item, but it's still not terribly valuable. (Maybe $50 on FB Marketplace in my Midwest USA area.)

Second item, smoky glass top side table, looks 1990s to me. You say it's not really to your taste... unfortunately, I think it would be to the taste of few.

Last item looks like a clunky 1980s-ish table base, missing its top.

All that said, I'm just offering my two cents, I'm no furniture expert (I just browse a lot). Hopefully, others will chime in, but none of the items look like they were high quality even when new.

 

Not sure if the mirror is original to its frame... something seems off, to me. But others may have a better idea.

The last one seems out of balance visually. The bottom very chunky looking compared to the top. And that screw right in the middle of the top seems odd. So I'd agree that the top may not be original. Or perhaps it is original but used to have a veneer or onlay over it that would hide that screw.

 

Can't usually comment on furniture, but that last "table" looks like the top and bottom are a marriage, and an unhappy one at that.

 

The little table base (last photos) is someone's home made wood working project. Appears to be made of clear pine, stained dk. walnut. It is missing it's top, or never had a nicer one.

At some point in time, the art deco mirror may become desirable, perhaps the 1980s end table too, but I doubt this is that point in time.

 

I want to add that the turned pedestal part of the short table appears to be a different type of wood turned on a lathe. Probably not pine.

 

First is a 30s vanity mirror. Second is just used furniture with little to no value. See similar in thrift stores for $5-10.00 or, occasionally, curbside for free. No up-side retail with this. Top does not look right for the third one. Just raw plywood. Not worth a second thought as there is a lot of better stuff out there if you keep looking.

 

Thanks everyone! The mismatched table is something I was more curious about rather than considering. I don't really have the room/capacity to buy furniture for reselling anyway, but the glass one caught my eye because (in my area anyway) for whatever reason glass stuff seems to be in high demand. That said, beveled glass with wood, and tacky looking, don't really make for the kind of modern looking glass top table that does sell well at the store...so...I agree. It's certainly not worth it.

Pity about the mirror having no vanity.

Here's an old school desk that came in.

 

Those old oak desks are lovely! My dad had one in our basement while I was growing up. He used it for planning his hobby projects, etc. We referred to it as a banker's desk, rather than a school desk. It needs a matching banker's chair!

 

Big heavy desks like this are a hard sell. A few people want them but they go for a song.

 

Would you believe the glass top end table ended up being priced at $40? Before tax. That's around 30 USD, which is more than double what @verybrad said it should go for. Truth be told I get very little say in pricing but even for something I initially thought might sell/be worth investing in, I'm aghast
