turquoise coral ring 1.jpg turquoise coral ring 2.jpg turquoise coral ring 3.jpg turquoise coral ring.jpg Hi All, I'm new here. Was wondering if I could get some help dating the ring and wondering where it may have been made? Does the urn design seem European and do you think this may be memorial jewelry? Weight- 19g- only marking is the 925 stamp. Thank you.

It's a size 11 so wouldn't think typically made for resale? Anyone know why the urn design or know when this design would've been popular?

@Any Jewelry will be able to date it but I know that I was buying similar rings for a museum shop from a NY dealer who was going back and forth to Asia in the 70s. A men’s average ring size is a 10 so an 11 is right in there.

It is a very nice Tibetan 'saddle ring'. Not antique with that 925 mark, but 1970s-recently.
It is not memorial jewellery, which is more of a Western thing.
It is the 'treasure vase', one of the Ashtamangala or 'eight auspicious signs' of Buddhism. You often see it in Himalayan art.
It stands for longevity, good health, prosperity and wisdom. It also has a more metaphysical meaning.
Buddhist symbolism is like Christian symbolism, it is not an indication of a specific period.

It’s unusual looking for turquoise IMO but I think it’s turquoise. Turquoise and coral are a traditional combo in Tibet. Let’s see what others think.

It really looks odd to me. Wonder if it’s chrysoprase but I’d expect turquoise in that ring.

It totally looks like turquoise to me. It would be seriously odd for chrysoprase.

It’s oddly colored to me but I’d expect turquoise in that ring.

Is it the mix of colors that seems off to you or the way they are distributed? As you say, turquoise would be the usual companion of the coral in a ring like this.

I think mainly the translucent quality has me stumped and also haven't seen this color combination in T. It may well be a nice Turquoise. I really like it :)

I'm not seeing translucence. If it were daylight I'd take a photo of a necklace that uses beads of some funky turquoise I really love. My preference in this stone is not everyone's.

Yes, it’s the mix, distribution and shine. I have so much turquoise and nothing that looks like that stone and I do own both Tibetan and Chinese turquoise although most of my turquoise is SW US. I think it’s beautiful, just odd to me.

@Any Jewelry , is the black likely paint or tarnish between the stones?

I have no idea, none of my Tibetan jewellery has anything quite this black.
This is my saddle ring for comparison:

Agree with the others, the stone looks odd, but I do think it is turquoise. It could be natural to the stone. Or maybe it has a protective layer and something got below the surface?
