I purchased this at our local goodwill store and I was hoping someone could take a look at the cars and the clothes and guess at a date. I was thinking maybe, early 1920's ?
Some of the cars look like the really early ones. Also if you recognize anybody, let me know! Curious about the sculpture too, maybe an early explorer? Can't quite tell what part of town it is, much different now. A lot of the buildings are gone or abandoned, new stadiums and casinos etc.

The 1910s from hats, hairdos and hemlines. Think World War I-ish.

I am curious as to the significance of the white ribbons they are wearing.

    Bust is probably Christopher Columbus.

The bust was erected in 1910. Photograph may have had something to do.

Thanks, I looked on Google maps and got my bearings. Close to the ballpark. I have been by there a few times to go to Tigers games.

Looks about dead bang going by the clothes. Probably a souvenir photo from the dedication.

A lot of the Columbus Day festivities of the time were designed to help integrate Italian Americans into society and give them a sense of belonging. Kind of a 360 degree turn from today where they are tearing down statues of Columbus.

Anyways that was a really good purchase. Antique yard long photographs always seem to do well.

Perhaps "removing" is a more accurate word than "tearing down?"

Late to the party! What a great photo. I was born/raised in the Metro Detroit area and still live here. I work in the midtown area. As you've already discovered, this photo is in the downtown area. The bust was in the median of Randolph Street, facing the intersection of Jefferson Avenue. In June 2020, it was removed and placed in storage, for it's own safety, due to CC statues across the country becoming subject to vandalism.
Seems unusual to be celebrating CC day or the bust placement (almost said erection :hilarious:) with a photo of the back of the bust?? Perhaps it's a corporate photo, a photo of all the employees of one of the businesses in the area.
Agree with 1910s dating, due to the ladies clothing.

A current view of the same area, you can see the plinth:

La Tribuna Italiana d'America was founded in 1909 and is still operating as the Italian Tribune. That appears to be its founder Vincenzo Giuliano (albeit somewhat younger) in the front row of your photograph. You can always confirm with the publication.
