Would this 40-inch tall Santos carving sell for over $1000. Normally? I can buy it but that's my criterion now. Def vintage at least vintage, sry best pic avl. Wood is a light- colored hardwood that feels denser than pine but maybe a bit less than white oak. Must know today.

Not in my neck of the woods. I kind of get a made to look old Bali carving vibe from this.

Im with Brad , theres sort of an Asian look to their faces . Its a nice piece and Id certainly buy it for looks alone IF it was cheap enough .

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Doesn't look Southwestern or Mexican to me. Although the maker did a bit of research... the clothes colors are marginally correct for the Virgin of Guadalupe, the most popular incarnation of Mary for Mexicans.

I don't like the way the paint is distressed......looks like someone took a claw hammer to it ...in certain spots only..........imo

Looking at the 'wear', I'd say it's 100% fake. It is mostly in the recesses that wouldn't get worn and little on the high points.

Thanks, I don't know that stuff at all, but got your Advice in time. Wife and I went to that store today and she didn't like the Santo at all but liked this Chinese table, 34" tall x 37" wide, nice paint patina and genuine wear. The one brass pull may be a replacement but the thing was very inexpensive and there was room in the truck for it.

Thanks. If you zoom in on the table top you can see pairs of rectangles where the legs are joined tongue-and-groove ? Style into the top. Is that typical for Chinese furniture, I can't recall seeing that before?

The joinery on tables like this are usually covered over by a thin layer of gesso before painting. Over time this often gets exposed due to cracking. I can see it on the crossbar joints better than I can see it in your top. I think the drawer pull is probably original. This could date as early as the 20s. Nice little table.

Pretty sweet table. I know enough about antique wood pieces to get in trouble and not much more. Definitely the table over the tourist piece santos. That carving kind of says Pier One on it, from back in the days when they were a real import shop and not a Chinese Import store for home goods.

I agree with Brad about the pull being original.
I was thinking 1930s, so in the same ballpark as Brad.
I'll defer to him on the joinery.
