What a nice idea, Komo! Can't resist horses and gators, plus all the other cool stuff, please put my name in for this one... ~Cheryl
I don't normally participate in the give-aways, but this one really appeals to me. Please put my name in the hat!
The mask I believe is a south american whistle.....that brightly colored checkerboard is the other side of it ! Neat Huh ?
Does the little mask guy function as an ocarina? More holes on the other side, blow into it and make "pretty" music? (Sorry, had the usual glitch about failing to display (or read) earlier posts; I see you mentioned it has the bright geometric pattern on the back; so it probably makes three different notes as the eyeholes are covered/uncovered, and could be considered a type of ocarina. Or whistle.
Well, I don't know about pretty....but the eyes, give you 3 differnt notes. PS.....no my ears were not burning.....but my heart swelled a little !!!..)
LOL! Actually, it was the carved *stick* thing that grabbed me - not that I don't love the other pieces as well!
That's an ocarina all right; a friend used to sell them. They're Central American harmonicas, or close enough. Gotta love that gator.
Sure, ocarinas are known world-wide, pretty much; with 7 holes you can get a complete one octave scale, and with a little more work, multiple octaves. Known in the USA for about 100 years as a "sweet potato" and I understand also featured in the Legend of Zelda games..... They have a 12,000 year history, per Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocarina
