They have "Granit" marks, that belong to a Hungarian company. Why the marks were masked with the red paint? Someone else used their blanks and exported them?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I wonder why they say "Foreign" at the bottom. Any ideas on that?

The Tariff Bill. 'Foreign' was used before US, UK and other English speaking countries required more detailed description of the country of origin. But those pieces are surely not from the late 19th -early 20th. I think West Germany used 'foreign' in the 50's when exporting to Eastern European contries because of the communist regimes there.

Any china shop in Budapest today will have similar 'folk art' designs on dispay.

I must confess to a weakness for the much higher quality products of Herend, since visiting the factory. Possibly a good thing I see so little of it in the auction room.
