    Small heavy brass coated non magnetic locket type thing, it opens but is not hinged its held together with old glue and hair.
    Has a rose decoration either side.

    Witch doctor's purse to hold magic potion. IDK but it's creepy!

    It looks like it's from India. Beyond that...dunno. It may have been a decoration on a tassel, or cord ends, or something of the sort.

    It's fascinating, in a voo-doo sorta way.
    Does anybody anywhere use hair and glue as a hinge mechanism? I couldn't find anything.

    Maybe it's some version of a mourning locket...?

    I'm familiar with Victorian mourning lockets with the fantastically woven hair of the deceased, though this is so different (and messy).

    Other ideas: Prayer locket or a perfume/scent locket.

    Except it almost looks like it might have gotten "ripped" out of someone's head..... bad I know, but that's what it looks like.........:meh:

    Off the wall I know but . . . are "we" certain that it is human hair in the locket?

    Had I ever been fortunate enough to have a pony and a "locket" like that, I might have clipped a few strands of hair from either the pony's mane or tail as a keepsake (regardless of whether the pony was alive or deceased at the time of the "clipping"). ;)

    I don`t think its human hair.
    @evelyb30 mentioned a tassle.
    My Dad thinks its from a Sporran some sort of hanging adornment., it is really heavy for its size.

    I think your dad is on the right track. I looked at a ton of sporrans, and most are cone-shaped or bell-shaped, but they are very similar in that they enclose hair in that general way. OOOOOH, I hate the ones with the fox faces on them!
