    Hello everybody,

I have 2 small opaline vases I can't find online.

    Material: Opaline
    Height: 21 cm/ 8.26 inch.

I'd like to know where they're from, and how old they are.

Original owner told me they are partially handpainted,
    and partially enamelled.

    They have a beautiful color.
Hopefully somebody can tell me more about it :)

    (If anybody has any idea about value, I'd like to hear it :p) $_85 (1).JPG $_85 (2).JPG $_85 (3).JPG $_85 (4).JPG $_85 (5).JPG $_85.JPG

    Thanks in advance!

The figures look transferprinted. Have a look with a loupe.

Tranfer printed wouldn't make them completely worthless right?

No, not at all, but less than if hand painted.

I first have to find out what's the difference between handpainted and enameled.
I did'nt really look that up because I'm too busy.

I'll make sure I do that in a couple days, to really understand it.
Those are pretty much the basics, and it's a little lazy to ask you all those questions really.

Let's say they ARE transfer painted...
What are your thoughts of age, origine, and/or value.

(By the way.. origine. Is that the right word in english?)

Enameled is a type of paint that is applied to glass. You will feel it if you run your finger over it. It's raised a little bit. Enamel on metal is something else entirely.

If you have a magnifying glass you should be able to tell if it is transfer. You will be able to see little dots. Hand painted, you will see the brush strokes. Sometimes things are transferred and then the highlights are hand painted.

Origin - no "e" on the end. You are asking what country they might be from.

Looking at the metal stand and the gilt metal trim, I am thinking possibly 1960's from Italy, possibly France. But that is only a guess on my part. Wait for others.

Thank you. The seller told me it was Art Nouveau, ca. 100 years old.
Now I know you shouldn't always believe that, but I bought it. Litteraly :p
    Paid € 45,- for it. (£ 39,-)

Not Art Nouveau, very often anything with a flower or a woman on it on it gets called Art Nouveau when it is not. I am getting the same 1960s vibe Pat is, sorry!

They remind me of my grandmothers "dresser vases" one on each end a little different but very similar ie like your transfers. My vibe is 1930's and English.

Thank you all for your help. Too bad it isn't really that old. I'm sending them up for auction next week to get an estimate. Really hope I didn't pay too much for it.

    :)
