Got this in a big garage-type building in 14 degree weather this weekend. A chair by John Jelliff of Newark, New Jersey, ca. 1860. Part of a parlor set. The upholstery with needlepoint is not original, but probably dates to the first decade of the 20th century. You just don't see these in the U.S. Midwest. Anyway, love it, low to the ground or not :) 1.jpeg 2.jpeg

That's purty. If it's really low, check under the feet and see if there are holes for castors/wheels. They often either fell out or were removed. If you have holes, you can always buy some replacements and jack the chair up an inch or so and make it look like the manufacturers intended.

It's hard to see, but the front two legs are already on castors, and the back two legs never had them. Gives a little tilt to the back.

Made the chair comfortable and made it easy to move to clean under it. Double win.

It's well-designed, so yes. However, the packing (horsehair) is kind of "dead" after all these decades, so no.
