I'm sure I might be able to find out more info if I could decipher what is written on the base above the Italy part, I thought it was a pretty piece of pottery with the maidens heads as handles and the turtle carrying the vase on it's back, and I would like to learn more about it. TIA!

Sorry about the photos, apparently photobucket has started watermarking everyone's pics and even though my photos are only 500-700kb I can never get them to host here, so I'm on the hunt for another hosting site...I did try my google album, but for whatever reason the link wont show the photos in the post..anyway, sorry about wasting your time

Perhaps you could upload the pictures w/o the photo bucket logo?

Or, perhaps photobucket has done this with out my permission and I'm currently looking for new hosting. Because apparently they're doing to all photos now..

Strange as it may be, I think that word is Italy. It has the look of an Italian apothecary jar missing its lid. The incised lines are called sgraffito. It definitely looks Italian to me, and not very old.

Oops! Well... we're agreed on the Italy part.

After awhile, you get to recognize the horrible way they wrote Italy, almost every time. Or you think the style looks Italian, and your brain says the word might be Italy. Jake, it wasn't a waste.

There were a couple that had heavy Photobucket watermarks. Those pictures have apparently been deleted.

I read LDBEU. Either it is something else, or just the letters of a manufacturer's or design code.

I see LOBEL? Not an Italian name, but maybe the suggestion will spark a thought.

Enlarging it gets me LABEL or possibly LABEC, neither of which makes much sense.

Perhaps Luca Della Robbia lent his name to Majolica producers using his application?
