I have a sewing machine I’m hoping someone can help me pinpoint the actually name (302, 302k..etc). This one doesn’t look EXACTLY like any of the ones listed on google where they have all of these Singer machine’s lined up with their labeled names under them. Here I’m going off the AK serial number because it doesn’t have the labeled stamp above it where it would show (-99) stamped on a small plate. From this chart, it looks like it was manufactured in November 1950.

I know nothing about this subject, but the serial number in your attached picture seems to start with AU not AK. What am I missing?

Says that your machine is a Singer 66. Which certainly, it appears to be.

The 66 started production right around 1900, through until the 1950s/60s.

If you’re talking about the AU52-17-1, that’s something else I believe. The serial number is in the other pictures on the bottom right:)

That helps a lot, thanks for the verification! It works beautifully too. Minor scratches on the top, do you have any recommendations as to how to try and buff out surface scratches?

Thanks. I did not even see that line of numbers in those pictures. Like I said, I'm not a sewing machine person. Glad Shangas was helpful!

I do wonder if that AU52-17-1 is January 1st 1952 though?

Sewing machines motors were very common. They were mass-manufactured both to go with new machines, but also to go with antique machines which people wanted to upgrade from manual to electric.

As such, they were just pumped out - and not just by Singer - every company that made sewing machines also made spare motors. Apart from knowing that it's an original Singer piece, I can't tell you much else. I'm not aware of any dating methods for motors.

The 66 was a VERY common sewing machine - I have one of them myself.

Mine is a much older, Edwardian-era model, ca. 1910-ish, but as I said before, the machine was manufactured for years - decades, even.

Singer motors (and electrically-driven machines) started coming out in the early 1920s - 1921 or 1922, if I remember rightly. But the transition was very slow. Singer kept making hand-cranked and treadle-machines right up until the 1950s.

I wondered that, too. I think the cabinetry fits with early 1950s dating.
