My first antiques love story, I brought these two back together. The first time I’ve brought two items together that are separate. Both from eBay, I purchased the collar for £13 and the crown perfumery smelling salts bottle for £6 or something similar. I have a small collection of smelling salts bottles, so it was a dream come true to have this on my shelf with them

Made by Henry Matthews noted silversmith of vanity items. This bottle would have contained some staggeringly powerful smelling salts, a luxury in the first place this sleeve will have been owned by a wealthy individual

Also attached is a contempary, most likely a little earlier advertisement for a silver smelling salts case.

Ps sorry about the photos I’ve been rushing to photograph a lot of things that have been delivered.

Very nice, Nathan! Out of curiosity, do you know who made the bottle?

I forgot say, it’s a crown perfumery smelling salts bottle. There are two different size varieties of them, this is the larger.

Thanks @kyratango, I saw an amazing ad with a few of them advertised but I can’t find it anymore. I’m sure itll come back round one day

ahemm, coming down on the side of ' anything's possible ', I wonder if the silver was meant for this bottle.., or if it just happens to fit..?

I'm seeing many silver..& plated covers that fit this size bottle, but yours stands out as very different than the rest.....

I'm sure the avondale antiques case was for a salt & pepper.....

    just sayin......

Oh yeh they aren’t star crossed bottles by any means ;). Around the time they were made jewellers made cases for them, universally fitting. I’m so sentimental about finding it because seeing it coincided with my peaked interest in these bottles.

Oddly enough I have that same case which is in the bottle left photo
