    Hi all
I recently acquired this beaker at auction.
It has a zig-zag line, Capital N (for Nurnberg/Nuremberg) and what appears to be a flower (but none of the ones shown on https://www.silvercollection.it/GERMANMAKERSPLANTS.html).
Google lens has shown other's like this, with the N and zig-zag line, but different makers - and they all say they are silver and 17th/18th C.
Can anyone please tell me what that zig-zag line is called/denotes and if the maker if known.
It stands 7cm high and has a diameter of 7cm and appears to have some age.
    Thanks in advance

Sorry not sure why it wouldn't upload the last three as full images :arghh:

The zig-zag line is what the assayers did to test metal purity.

The zig zag was created when the item was tested for fineness.

OK thanks, so that means it is silver but should there be a Loth mark to give the actual silver content?

I think the pictures of the marks are too small and unclear to be able to tell much.

If it's as old as you hope, I'm guessing the repousse decoration was likely added later.

This item must pre=date the 1888 marks. Yes it should have a loth number.

Yes it's strange - all the photos were taken and uploaded by the same method, and despite deleting them a few times, the same three came through smaller than the others.

No, it simply means it was tested.;)
It also appears to have letters, I think there is an R on the left, an H at the top and an A at the bottom.

I enlarged the mark, but it is very blurry. I know the mark is tiny, but do you think you can take a sharper photo?

Thanks so much for that Any Jewelry - I've taken some more photos with my Canon 5d and macro lens, using a tripod and slow shutter speed, then enhanced in LR - but they are still not much better sorry. Just really hard to get a decent photo

I note that the beaker is quite flexible - i can flex the opening with my fingers - I'm hoping that means it has a reasonably high silver content?

Amazing what you can find if you use the right wording ;) The mark is clearer here, but definitely the same.

    Great searching, Dory.:)
I think you're right, the same mark. There are several letter-in-flower marks, but I do think this is the same one.
