    Hello

Here is a lovely pendant I bought last week.

I did an acid test for gold content and it came up as 18ct, which I confirmed with my jeweller. He wasn't sure where it came from, but suggested Turkish or Middle Eastern.

It is rose gold coloured with no marks. Set with amethysts, sadly one missing. I think the two emerald cuts may be replacements for original shield cut stones-sadly only one left.

Weighs 14.4 grams. 4cm height including loop, and 2.3cm width.

Unsure whether to harvest the stones and melt it down. Obviously it would be nice to keep but I can't find anywhere that sells shield shape amethysts.

Any help on origin is appreciated.

Nice - the claw settings look like they should work with pear cuts, so you could change them all for pears of a matching stone.

Melting really should be a last resort, even with no stones someone should pay above melt for it so they can fit their own.

That's a good idea, I will look into organising some pear cut stones.

    Nice!
Thinking Italian, there was a rage for these lantern shaped pendant used as big charms grouped on big bracelets in the 1960s!
    I'll try to find images:)

My thought is also Italian, it's very like "charms" I've seen in shops there.

If Turkish, and old(er), I posit that the stones might be true alexandrites, not amethysts. Natural alexandrites are now exceptionally rare and expensive, if found, though many lab-produced alexandrites are readily available, mainly from India, and quite beautiful. The lightness of the purple and the refraction of blue light makes me think alexandrite. Too often now, amethysts are sold as alexandrites.
