This piece was presented to someone for winning/participating in the high & long jump events. I think the S.M.H. Sports on the back stands for Sydney Morning Herald.

I believe the marks are for Birmingham BWDIK.

I failed to figure out what the H.W.A. means although I assume it is likely the jeweler that made it. There is also a mark of some sort on the back at the very bottom but I did not have a clue.

Is there any significance to the crown design at the top?

I also have no idea what the initials are in the monogram on the front. If anyone wants to take a stab at it that would be awesome.

It is 1 9/16" top to bottom & 15/16' across at the top.

Thanks to any & all advice or opinions!!:happy: :kiss:

@Shangas - I see you are here right now. Do you have any clue what H.W.A. might stand for as I am thought it might be someplace in Australia.:happy:

    What INH said.

I was about to say - Australia has never had a nationwide and official system of hallmarking like what they do in Europe.

The medal would have been made in England (Birmingham, in this case) and would've been shipped to Australia as a blank, and then filled in later by the jeweler or engraver when it was purchased.

I agree that SMH is "Sydney Morning Herald". The SMH started in 1831 as the Sydney Herald, and was changed to the Sydney MORNING Herald in 1842 - a name that it's held ever since.
