This was also at the dump, ahem, the 'transfer station', today. Priceless tome that many people who use the internet should read.

Words derived from Latin and Greek; words of similar pronunciation; words spelled alike but different in both accent and sound; and, my personal favorite, Improprieties heard in conversation. In a modern edition I'd add 'nucular' for 'nuclear.'

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

There is a "transfer station" here, too! Your post made me smile.

All the dumps on the Cape have 'gift houses' where people leave decent things they don't want so others can take them. I've found some real treasures, like an 18th century book that belonged to Daniel Webster's personal secretary. An older friend has gone to a home in Vermont and her son and ex-husband were emptying her house. I missed a couple of nice chairs (like I need more chairs) but she had an eclectic houseful of stuff. We're going back today to see if there are any other goodies.
