Hello everyone, does anyone recognize this antique (1812) hall mark or the type of kettle? 77104613.jpg 77104615.jpg 77104614.jpg

Some here could help I'm sure but would want a pic of the whole thing, pref front and back, and dimensions. I'm sure you know the 1812 isn't a date of manufacture but probably when the company was founded.

Hello Komokwa, it did not occour to me thanks for bringing it to light. If that is the case, once I identify the hall mark I can research the company / maker further. Thanks again.

The three towers symbol is possibly Danish.

It's not a hallmark. It's a foundry mark. It's the mark of the foundry which cast or manufactured the kettle. And yes the others are correct - 1812 is the year of ESTABLISHMENT, not manufacture. If it was, I'd have a 17th century chamberstick on my desk right now!! HAHA!!

Research Danish foundry marks, European foundry marks, etc, and see what happens. Not all brass and bronze was marked this way, but some was. Not all foundries were as particular as some.

Hello Breezy, thanks for the tip but several hours and beers later no luck. What do you mean by establishment, the MGF / plant? With as much as people collect old copper I am astonished on how difficult it has been to locate. I did learn a time period for it by the the dovetail makers technique on copper.org, pretty cool site. Thanks and if anyone has any further leads Ill take them and thanks in advance.

Eh, my username is 'Shangas', but whatever...

The kettle has a date of 1812 on it. That tells us when the foundry which made your kettle was STARTED. It doesn't tell us when the kettle itself was MADE.

Unfortunately, foundry marks are all over the place. You may never find out who made it or when. I have a Dutch mortar and pestle in my collection made of brass with numbers punched into it. I have no idea who made it or when or where, beyond the seller's story that her mother brought it with her from the Netherlands after the Second World War. That doesn't mean it was necessarily MADE there, however.

One guy I showed it to said it was at least 300-400 years old, which I HIGHLY doubt.

It can be impossible to find out this stuff. You may never know for sure.

Cool thanks for the clarification and sorry for calling you Breeezy, I now realize that is a descriptor for your username. (new to site is the best excuse I can come up with at the moment). Thanks again.
