This funeral oration is dated February, 1800 and published by Joseph Tuckerman. Ya think this is an original funeral announcement for Washington? I can't find any real info on the web--just a few university citations. No sales history or anything else. Whatcha all think? Is THIS gonna be my ticket to retirement?

Not a funeral annoucement per se - a copy of a speech given to honor the occasion of Washington's funeral (this one commissioned by the "Boston Mechanic Association". Just searching around a bit I saw one quotation that there were probably quite a few speeches/orations given around the country on the day of Washington's funeral/withing the days weeks thereafter. Don't know anything about the printing you have though.

It has the old-style "s"s. Would they have been included in an 1888 reprint?

It depends. If it's a facsimile reprint it would have pages that look exactly like he original. But not all reprints are facsimiles.

Just quickly looked at some (not all) of the Worldcat entries. One said, "Reproduction of original from The American Antiquarian Society." It doesn't say "facsimile" but sounds like it might be.

It looks like it could be the original 1800 edition to me. Not really a scarce or valuable item, as shown in the first link in my other post. There were many published sermons/eulogies/orations for Washington.

If it were a facsimile, that would be acknowledged and the recent printer would be named.

Abebooks has a bound collection of Washington eulogies for $1500 from this printer, but that's a collection of 20 different.

Yes, I was just coming back to mention that as well.
