Featured 17th Century oak coffer?

Hi all,is this 17th century? (found some very similar online) Seems typical. This one needs some obvious work and restoration. But still beautiful. Just want to confirm the age/century. It’s 46cm wide,stands 53cm tall,lid is 104cm long. Thank you for any comments

Quite often people think 16th century = 1600s, 18th century = 1800s. It's a common mistake

 

Indeed 17th century for sure. I would say Charles II period to be more specific too. Hopefully you pick it up.

looks like someone tried scraping off the interior paper...
can you make out any of the writing?

 

Thanks for the comment. That’s good thinking (why didn’t I think to look!) Anyway had a look it’s old English newspaper (with some fancy font in sections) There’s also some overlay with what looks to be vintage wall paper.

 

Now I really wish that they left the newspaper in place . Could have been interesting.
