I don't remember your first post, maybe missed it, but you've covered this last picture of the chair up with a pair of pants? Why? What? :hurting::jawdrop:

LOL, Its a painting smock. Unfortunately this is the only front view photo I was able get my hands on. There is a lot of inland and marquetry that the owner wants to hide or doesn't really appreciate. There is an extreme amount of detail here. I certainly would like to get some better pics if I could find them.

The very first picture of your original post is NOT the same chair as this picture! Who's zooming who?

I'm sorry you are correct. However this chair is in the original post about half way into OP.

Hi James, I believe your comment deserved a response. I had to take few days to consider how to respond. So here we go, I respect your vast knowledge and the passion that you obviously have for this art form. I do believe your response to my inquiry however de-legitimized my inquiry. You said, “You didn't miss much, TRUST ME! I was there for the entire saga and, i have been trying to forget it ever since! “. My request is legitimate. When you, carrying a lot of clout with forum make a statement like that, others may not bother to read any further or add bit of information that might help me out. I para phased you with “this chair is a myth” and maybe it is. But if there is more to the story I would think if anyone would want to know aside from myself it would be you. There are lot of people out who have information to share. If my post aren’t of any interested to you please ignore them. Respectfully M77

    hi michael

have you considered the possibility that the original chair is an excise chair post 1661 and from a viking influenced area like wales.

if it was not you that made the repro then it looks like a norwegian fiddle [and 3 legged corner chairs are still made sort of painted there].

Thank you Alex, I have not seen this chair before, can you share your source. I have spent countless hours on the web, books etc. I guess I'm just not looking in the right places. They say "it's always the last place you looked when you've found what your looking for"! The picture below is the one in question.

Not my intention, was making a joke, sorry if you were offended.
Thing is, there have been 4 or 5 inquiries on this form in the past year, one lady got so upset she left the forum & had a moderator remove the thread.
My joke to Anti was a reflection on this furniture form having been pretty much beat to death over the past year in this forum.
Some find it difficult to accept reality with old furniture, they simply want it to be something it clearly isn't.

    rosemaling chair
the marquetry on your newer chair just reminds me of a nowegian fiddle. they are utter marquetry madness sometimes. gotta love em.

Hi James, Ok I understand that. I was not around for past conversions on this subject. I did do a forum search, my chair and one from a week or two came up but nothing else. I do know that the chair in above post is not a recent reproduction. I do know that the chair is at least 75 years old; Sir Ian Hamilton the giver of the chair died in 1948. I will admit the chair seems to be in great condition for a chair that is reported to be 300 years ago? I appreciate your response.

alot of norwegians worked for the voc so i guess it makes some sense its dutch/norwegian. thats a new one. but england was norways biggest trading partner in 1661.

Well, if you are a woodworker set out to make a copy, why would you show the picture of the chair covered up when you already made a whole thread about this already? Make your own blueprint guide and carve away!

Yes, James, that was clear to me, thanks.

Hi Anti, I don't have a problem making a drawing. My goal was the history of the chair. I had never seen one like this before, so I came to the pros “you guys” to find out what I could. This is an elusive chair as far as historical info goes. I like to know as much as I can about a piece. The picture with the smock laying on it is the only picture(s) available to me this far. I’m hoping someone may have better pictures they would share with chair not covered, along with its historical origins. This post was just another appeal to any who might be able share their knowledge, there was over 2,000 views of original post, some one must know something. I will not post any more on this subject unless I find some solid facts for those interested or someone else posts. Thanks for your comments!

    It's a strange chair.....but a lively thread !!! :):):)
