Currently, research is focused on a rare armchair that was recently discovered in the Netherlands. The three legged walnut chair was made to be used on a ship, either by the captain or navigator. During rough weather it could be fastened to the floorboards with pegs or rope. Its elaborate renaissance carving bares the coat of arms of Middelburg, an important VOC port at the time, along with the date 1621. It is, to our knowledge, the oldest maritime armchair in existence.

Thank you, All I have is a picture, I contacted Chartwell (National Trust) as they have a chair close to this on display. They tell me it is 16th/17th century. That's about all they could tell me. I'm just looking for addition information. I make reproductions thus my inquiry. Thanks again!

You are not getting beaten up, but you gave the impression the chair was yours, and you did not say you had borrowed the photograph.

Sorry about that. I didn't know it was a crime to get a photo on line to share. As to given to the impression the chair was mine I don't know how that could be? I never said I had the chair, but only looking for information on the chair, I joined the forum because I thought there are folks there that know a lot more about these things then I do. No I don't have the chair and yes I barrowed the picture, how else would the group understand my inquiry?

You never said you didn't have the chair either and you could have informed us that the picture was not yours.

Why didn't you contact Jean-Marie van Isacker, you used her photo, she would have more information than us.

It just eliminates us Finding the information you already have, if you explain. :)
I can’t see the top of the chair, but maybe that’s where the Coat of Arms is?

Jean Marie is a guy. He wants money for his thoughts. I'm trying to research this without spending money. That's why I joined the forum. I'm just looking for information. If anybody would like to share their knowledge with me that's great if not I won't bother the forum about it.

I thought I was up front, I just asked if anyone knows anything about this chair. I certainly didn't want to be verbose with minor details wasting your good peoples time. All the information I have was in my first post. Your forum was just another hopeful resource for me. I was sure someone there could provide more information and expertise then was on Jean-Marie website. Been there done that. I have spent weeks with online research and have found nothing.
