Picked this up at the flea-market yesterday. Lovely little thing.

Worn next to it is my 18kt-and-sapphire ring which I showed a few months ago.

Very typical of late Victorian rings, that.

I see this style described as a gypsy ring or gypsy band.

Gypsy set is a common term for them.

At least I know what it's called, now :p

I bought it because I considered it very good value for money, and plus, I like sapphires. Blue is my favourite colour.

I bought it at the same flea-market as the other, 18kt gold one with the bigger sapphire.

It's nice to know that you can still find decent antique jewelry like this, secondhand. Most gold I see today is of such cheap quality, I hesitate to call it gold.

It is not Gypsy set unless a Gypsy made it.

You should have posted this ring photo to start with, most replies were from the other ring. The ring in this photo appears to be poorly case with many casting bubbles visible.

...I know they're for the other ring. I'm only sharing that one because he said he liked it, and I want to show it off better. And they're not bubbles - they're part of the design - it's grape-clusters and vines.

The bubbles are not part of the vines/grape clusters,it was poorly cast.

It is beautiful. I love it.

In other news: Waaaahhh!! :'( the stone popped out of my other ring.

Gonna take it to my jeweler and see if he can fit it back in. It fell on the floor so I almost didn't find it - but now it's safely in a ziploc bag in my wallet.

Good news: Jeweler said he could fix the ring, but it'd cost a bit because the prongs that hold in the sapphire are broken - so he'll have to add more gold to the ring to rebuild the prongs to hold the stone in. Hope to pick it up in a couple of days.

He asked me how long I'd had it, and I told him. He said he was amazed it didn't pop out sooner! Commended me on being able to find the stone, though - said if I'd lost it, finding a replacement would cost a fortune.
