It may have had a pewter lid; there is the small cavity in its grip near the rim for anchoring one, but no evidence remaining of one being attached. Its 6" high, ~2 3/4" rim, ~3 1/2" base, shallowly concave; weight is ~19 oz. The graphic either side of the grip base seems deco, but I'm not at all sure about that. Inside that grip base is 1900...whether it's significant as far as dating the stein I'll leave to y'alls expertise. Is this anything out of the ordinary?
It was Dad's, an' he thought it had been his mother's; neither of them were German. Thanks for lookin'!

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

TWO things I noticed........but not sure any of it helps.....Close to the word 'GERMANY' I see what looks like a small animal....maybe dog???? And down below along the edge I see what looks like it "could" be writing, but was unable to bring it out anymore than what you see.....it would probably be in German anyway...........still, a handsome tankard!!

I came upon a few Marzi & Remy steins too while I was looking and then realized that the marked examples I found were similar in design but not exactly the same.

The handles seem different as well as the oak leaves etc (as I recall). But then again, the #1900 seems it might be their production number so no idea if they made a simplified version or if their pattern was borrowed by others.

There seem to be quite a few of this type with just "Germany".
I don't know if Marzi & Remy ever used just a "Germany" mark but here is a page with some Marzi & Remy marks.

Great! Like mine in that it has the wee cavity for anchoring a pewter lid...but theirs shows faint residue in that area, soil-shadow from the once-present lid.
Sure is a better example, being so colorfully done!

That thing is proud to the surrounding surface, an' under a loupe is clearly just a wee bit of clay, a production remnant of no significance. In addition, there are no letters, German or otherwise, in the area you highlighted, Aqui...but I'm grateful for your superb sleuthing, thanks!

This one (with a different design) has 'GERMANY' like yours, and seems to have a small mark next to it. I wondered if the thingy Aqui pointed out was something similar or if the mark on this one is also just a small production flaw.
Anyway, again no maker mentioned in this ad

Seller asking $12.99 for it. I wonder if this is the purchase price from the garage sale the day before he put it online :D

Pretty hard to tell, by me anyway. Marzi & Remy looks to have been the maker of all of them, but why they're not so marked is a bit puzzling.
What my takeaway is, though...nothing notable or unusual about mine...sigh.
