    Does anyone know what this reads?

    That looks like a very nice piece of jade. I tried to google translate the writing but no go.

    I see the same but they don't make sense when put together on a plaque - something like 'come again'?

    interesting.. that the guy's in a hollow tree branch on rough water....with a nicely carved paddle.......

    maybe some legend about being up a creek..... with a paddle !!;).:playful:

    This is a wish for long life. The Chinese calendar uses a cycle of 60 years, each year having a different designation. When a person reaches the age of 60, he/she has completed one full cycle of years (and it is cause for great celebration). The full cycle of 60 years is called 花甲.

    On this jade piece, the inscription is "再來華甲," with the third character (花) written in a more elaborate way (華). It basically means, "May the cycle of years come again," or "May you enjoy another cycle of years." Note that the metal piece on top, on top of the bat (a symbol of happiness), is the character for "long life."
