I've been trying to figure it out for a number of years now....the first name looks like it's "Frank"......it's the last name that's got me in a dither and sending me to the 'crazy house!!:arghh::wacky: I "think" the last name starts with a 'C', but that's as far as I can get!!!! ANY and ALL help is MOST appreciated........and as always, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!

Frank C. Crandall perhaps? Are there any other examples of this handwriting on the document?

There are many combinations that could work as a name, but that alone does not help to correctly confirm it. Other parts of the document might prove helpful in confirming the individual.

Like with any search, more pictures please.

Here are some combinations to play with ...

Arundale? There's a street with that name near me,and it was someone's surname.

@daveydempsey, I think you could have 'possibly' nailed it....I never thought of TWO "C's"!!!! And going over it and the first link you posted, says he was from Rhode Island, which would put him in the area at the right time......and married a woman named "Ball"....somewhat common name on Block Island, back in that time!!! Thank you....it's definitely a start!! And still maybe all conjecture!!!

AS WELL, thank you to you others (@evelyb30, @Roaring20s, @charlie cheswick and @Debora !!!! It ALL helps!!!! @Roaring20s, it all boils down to a receipt we found in an OLD house relating to the sale of a "black man" some 20+ years AFTER the Emancipation Proclamation, that I was/am reluctant to post!!! But it has always held my attention!!!
    Thank you all again!!!
