Featured Opinions on 3 Studio Pots

Hi everybody. I hope you won't mind if I ask which of these three pieces you like best. I'm trying to improve my judgment and I value your all's opinions.



Here they are individually:

A: a raku jar; no signature; 5" x 6.5"






B: Tan with 2-tones; signed Bradley; 7" x 4.5"






C: Wide-mouth jar; three impressed initials: XDH; 7.25" x 5"

the raku would probably be the easiest sell, but i find the mustard glaze one the most interesting, especially form wise

I really like both A and B and it would have been an interesting choice to make (if I had to buy) But I would have taken the raku jar. Thanks for the post

so C is probably worth the most

When you like pottery though....they all end up looking good in their own way. It's tough from me to leave any when I find them.

 

B.... It is all about the glaze for me. I find the other two boring but can certainly see the skill it took to make them. If A had more iridescence on the upper portions of the vase, this might be a harder choice.

 

Yeah, B is the most interesting, but I like raku, so A, too.

 

As a pottery layman, I loved C, the color, shape, and texture.

 

Hey--- a vote for C! Everybody's a winner now.

A, lovely shape
B, most interesting
C, classic leaning toward utility

Don't know if I prefer one over the others

Is XDH pottery, Dan Hagstrom? There seem to be pots with those initials said to be by him.

 

the good thing about raku i've found is that you don't necessarily need a maker but will draw interest just on the technique or term

so while B might be more interesting without an affiliation will be a harder sell

 

Yeah-- I think you're right! The impressed initials match another one online, and I found this one on the Oregon coast, about 20 miles from where I've just read that Dan Hagstrom had a studio and shop!

Thanks for the idea. I have a possible lead on B, which is marked Bradley and may be by David Bradley. I've sent a message on FB and am hoping to hear back from him.

 

i bought this one the other day for very little just because i liked the glaze, but think it might be very amateur, not sure
