I went to three stores today. Bought one Christmas ornament and some groceries. The ornament was worth about what I paid - about two bucks. It's headed to a friend's house.

Here's a "find" from my stash of things that were my mother's. I started a thread tonight asking some questions about her.

    Hi Komo,
I had to wear a tie everyday for 37 years. The trouble was finding socks to match my ties, which I did for 10 years. The nurses used to check them out when I came to work. Two of them really worked hard to find weird socks thinking I would not have ties to match (fooled them).

    Hello Greg....
I had to wear one for 10 years straight....with a suit , but that's because we were Canada's largest....& finest neckwear company.

There was a fad for a while of girls wearing neckties too, back in the 80s. I did off an on for a few months. On the other hand, women had to wear the dreaded panty hose. Ties were easier and more comfortable.

Some bits of silver to soak up spare money.

    10 inch 21 ounce tray

I'm going to stand some cactus plants on it.

An American sterling bowl. Marked Cellin Craft. 10 inches, 20 ounces.

I am going to use it to serve jelly in at Christmas. That's English jelly, not US jelly that we call jam. I happen to have a childish liking for jelly with fruit and sponge fingers in it.

Silver salver, about 10 inches, 26 ounces.

Not sure what to do with this yet, may not be large enough for a pizza.

All cost about 10% over scrap value, which I can live with. I have a tendency to hoard silver. :)

Lloyd, your photos of the parasol triggered a vague memory of my family having something similar... can't remember when, though.

I think they have been available at Oriental gift shops since forever.
I know they were at the one I used to go to in Milwaukee in the 1960s.
But some are older, and better made, than others, so . . .
