Another mystery object from today's rummaging. No ideas again. I'm losing my touch. The back stamp looks like a monk or something. There is also a small blue flower present. Looks like a reg number but it is unreadable. Not sure if Selby is the name of the pottery or the pattern or maybe just the location. Either way I can't find anything specific to the object or in general.

Diameter of the cup is 11.5cm.

Pattern name. I think the registry number is five digits starting 17.

Figure looks Asian (Chinese) to me, and I think that the factory name is under the reg number. Way too blurry for me to figure out.

Thanks guys. Reg number was completely blurred before but now is starting to look like 17905 to me now. But I've had a stiff port.

I'm not saying this is correct but your mark looks like a kneeling man with a jug I think.

I couldn't get any clearer than this with my edits but I think the letters below the Rd numbers might end in "ing". I almost thought I read Keeling and they did use a similar figure though don't know about the crown.

EDIT - See next post for the Keeling mark that's like yours.

That size of cup and saucer is referred to as a Breakfast cup and Saucer. You know, when you need the most caffeine and you need to gulp it quickly, with enough room to dunk pastry into your tea.

I wondered too but it seems Noritake did make a pattern called Selby though those I've seen look nothing like this.

The mark in that listing is only a partial so maybe it was a guess on their part. Once you know what the Keeling mark is like, it becomes easier to see that the teapot has the same mark.

Funnily enough I've actually seen the umpteen times. I just couldn't put my finger on it. I think it will stick after this.
