Saw these clip on earrings recently and thought they were so fabulous that I just had to have them. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but I love them!
They have age related wear & tear and need a gentle clean up. The lizards and metal rings are cold painted metal and the backs of the rings are filled with what appears to be painted plaster of some sort. I assume the jewels are glass. 20241007_205423.jpg 20241007_205400.jpg 20241007_205824.jpg 20241007_205806.jpg 20241007_205651.jpg 20241007_205609.jpg 20241007_205450.jpg

Those are really fun!! You have got to find a reason to wear them out. Possibly to a zoo reptile house. :D

I love them. Lizards, snakes, dragons, love them all. And these are nice and quirky.
They have one problem for me though, they face the same way, no left and right. I need symmetrical earrings, otherwise I lose my balance.:inpain:
(No, not really, it is just one of my 'things':playful:)

I only noticed that after I'd bought them but it doesn't bother me too much. When you wear them one lizard points up and the other down. Not sure I will actually wear them though - I just liked them for their quirkiness! Not quite sure of their age - I've searched online but haven't been able to find anything quite like them.

I wonder if the clips were added later, and they started life as something else entirely.

That is a possibility but what on earth could they have been? Although the clips do appear to be original and fit perfectly in the space on the back.

Those were buttons, I reckon. They’re much older than the clips which have been added.

Gosh yes, buttons hadn't occurred to me but they could well have been. If so I'm amazed that the "squiggle" of thin metal from the lizards tails to back legs have survived intact as it is very thin and seems quite fragile. I forgot to put measurements but the "circle" is 1.5 inches across plus lizard overhang!
They remind me of the old majolica reptile & insect plates.

I think shank buttons, decorative ones. Yes, they’re very Palissy. Lovely things.

Damn! Now I can't unsee it. My crazy brain is forever going to check if earrings are symmetrical now!
But I'd be imbalanced for a day just to wear those suckers, they are adorable. Aren't you tempted to stick googly eyes on them? Just joking
