    It's ~5 3/4" high, ~3 3/4" wide, ~1 1/4" deep; it weighs ~9 oz.
The grapes an' leaves are what suggest Bacchus, but Lucifer or Satan would perhaps be more accurate...I dunno.
It looks like it has some age; the casting is smooth, sweet in hand, with no evidence of tool or abrasive work anywhere, an' with plenty of brass...the plate that completes the pocket in back is fastened with a common slotted screw.
I've looked closely at the match-striker surfaces, an' see no evidence of the flame & sulphur scarring usually found there with use...I believe it is unused, as made. Can anyone offer an age for it? Is it American, or European in origin? Thanks for lookin'!

My vote is for the Devil. I can see a couple horns and goes with the match motif.

Google Lens comes up with a number of similar. Like this one:

Bacchus as the god of wine
Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, is often depicted with horns, a thyrse, and a bunch of grapes. The thyrse is a staff with an object that resembles a pine cone. Bacchus is sometimes shown as a handsome young man, but can also be depicted as an overweight and drunken man.

I guess I don't know my Bacchus very well!

A satyr is another possibility. More bestial, horned, associated with the revelry & debauchery of the bacchanalia.

Definitely Bacchus or one of his ilk. I love this. I would totally pick one up and I don't have anything in my house that uses matches....:hilarious:

Hmm you can still buy strike-anywhere matches? Even if you wanna put safety matches in this...they still hold 'em. ;) I'd have to get creative and put something else in anyway.

I like that it's a Bacchus...like the party starts when you light the fire/candles/gas lamp up lol.
