    IMG_9049.jpeg IMG_9050-min 2.jpeg Hello,

a week ago, my mother bought an old silver coffee pot set at an antique shop (Germany). We found that it matched the work of Oskar Haegele, but not his initials. It looks like real silver, authentic looking, but we don't know if it's just a good copy or maybe a prototype/first edition.

Are you sure it is silver, not silver plated (or any of the other silver imitation metal alloys that are quite common in Germany)?
If it is German Silver, I would expect a fineness mark (usually 800, 835, 900, 925, 935) in combination with a crown and a half moon.

There is a service by the association of the German Society of Goldsmiths' Art in Hanau, for a fee (EUR 20 ?) they have a look in the archive. Unfortunately the webpage is in German only:

What a gorgeous little set you have!

I would almost certainly think this is a silver plated set. Similar to those above, German silver will have a fineness mark, crown and moon. How heavy are the pieces as well? Silver pieces will be lighter than plate, would be interesting to know.

The dead give away on this piece is the tarnish on the handle of the pot, and the mark on the body of the jug where the handle is. I can see where the plate has rubbed off and left the brass below. Definitely an antique, early 1900s for this style, a lovely little setting nonetheless!

Are you talking about the areas I circled? The two on the bottom look like reflections of the rim of the wooden table, the higher one looks like a reflection of the shield just to the right. Or am I misunderstanding you :)
