He used to make walking sticks and knives So it looks like what he would use on top of one of his sticks but I've never seen anything like this before . Any idea what country , material etc it could be? Has an elderly gent with on the other side. Flowers on top. ws3.jpg

    Thank you so much. ws1.jpg

Looks like an Asian top piece/head for a walking stick, see example... https://www.rafaelosonaauction.com/...e-portrait-carved-walking-stick-19th-century/

From these photos--especially that chip on the roof--I would say it looks like a resin. It doesn't look like bone or ivory to me.

    I'm sorry for your loss!

Aah not the top...on the roof, here:
    chip.jpg

Bone usually has growth texture, and little black spots from where veins died. Ivory has Schreger lines. I don't see either of those in these photos...but maybe you can see them close up in person? It also looks to me like the color has been applied. I'm sure others will give their opinion too if you check back. :joyful:

That is a very difficult thing to go through, on top of the loss. Let us know if we can help on anything else of his. I'm also curious about his own work. I love a good carving!
