I just bought this at the thrift store and cannot figure out if it is bronze, brass or ? I can see goldish underneath, maybe brass. Any idea or if it should be worth anything. It is not solid and I can see 3 holes that were filled in on the bottom. Any ideas? It measures about 10 3/4 inches tall by 4 1/16 inches in diameter at the base. An aside, there is some that rattles, more pings like a stone or ring, on the inside and it is killing me not to break it to see if someone hid something priceless (I know, dreamer), probably a piece of filler from the holes breaking off. Not attracted to a magnet. IMG_1778__1727640906_58734.jpg IMG_1783__1727640932_92761.jpg IMG_1787__1727640990_82499.jpg .

Mainland Smith makes some pretty nice stuff for being a modern company. I can’t imagine there are too many companies making stuff in the style and materials they do at that level currently. I’ve had pretty decent luck selling their stuff. Not all for as much as I hoped but people seem to be on the lookout for it.

I’ve had bronzes that have something rattling around in them. I’ve just assumed it was an artifact of the casting/production process.

Yes thank you. Good to know about Maitland Smith items. You are right of course about the rattling. I still walk beaches hoping to find a doubloon, knowing full well I will not. Great info.
