I was not aware of SBCD pottery (Santa Barbara Ceramic Design). In business from 1973-1987, they were said to have made about 80,000 pieces. They have a pretty good following with some nice value for being of relatively new make.

Just picked up this 7 1/4" vase. I am thinking it is by Dorie Knight but the signature does not match exactly. It does look like it could be her work. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks. I had not seen that. Had only seen the DK signature without the H. This link ties them together.

Had been to this site on my phone but sure couldn't see those tiny links at the bottom of the page.

Geez, that's a nice vase. Never heard of SBCD and I would've guessed it was older -- design is a bit of a throwback to earlier in the 20th c.

It looks older, but not quite. The black outlining looks pure 80s. Of course these days that IS older.

This similar vase just got listed on ebay. Also by Dorie Knight, same year, and also pansies. I am trying to figure out if the basic design is stenciled on these, with the rest hand-colored. The pansies on the two vases do not seem to match but I can't think these were done totally free-hand. The frieze at the top on mine only has the black outlining around the flowers, so maybe mostly hand done.

The information I am finding on-line about this company is unclear. Apparently, their production methods did change over time. For example, my vase is hand turned. Apparently, not all were. Some designs were offered in limited edition multiples, while others were one of a kind. Seeing this other vase tells me that, though not identical, similar vases were made.

Ack!!! .... while exploring the John Guthrie site linked above by Laura, I started getting virus notification pop-ups. Her link seems to be safe but some of the others on the site may not be. I think the virus warnings are fake phishing attempts but I have not yet been able to get rid of them.

Update: Was able to eliminate the pop-ups by rebooting. My antiviral software was not showing any virus threats so I do think they were just phishing pop-ups. The important thing is that you should never click on links in such pop-ups to "fix" the purported virus attack. These came across as McAfee warnings (which I do not have on my computer) and Window's security alerts. The latter did not conform to the appearance of real Window's security alerts so easily spotted as fake.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Love the black outlining -- although I'm from an earlier vintage than the '80s. ;)

And I like the colors of the vase...

She obviously liked Doulton Faience wares and some of our other art nouveau pots. Pansies were a big thing.
