That's a hair steep to me too. Around here it's usually 18-20%.

You mean the good-luck-with-that? I saw it, but didn't believe it.

And a 2% fee for credit cards if over $4,000....and 10% WA sales tax unless one has a resale certificate....so one could end up paying the bid price plus 37%

You also have to wonder what they're gouging out the consignors at that rate.

The house never loses unless the item passes. I can't imagine a big high$$ joint has that problem often.

all depends on who's looking and when......
I've seen items not sell in the spring.......and then sell in the fall.....:confused::wideyed:

Usually the house never loses, but in the case of this particular house, they did lose at least once. I purchased a group of vintage photographs through these guys for $10-15. When I got them home, inside were 3 original prints by CA photographer Morley Baer. I posted a thread about them here a long time ago:

I had a couple other minor 'scores' but now I'm telling y'all and the whole world one of my secrets!!

Does anyone know who made the gold pendants? They just say initials “JC” dated 1984.

Anytime something goes back to the tribe it came from that’s nice to see. I’m guessing they don’t only sell NWC stuff? Are they just a general auction house so to speak?

It doesn't usually happen, but sometimes they really blow it. Estate sales too. I've bought unremarked sterling for stainless steel prices more than once. Not enough times for me, mind, but sometimes things just don't get read.

They are a general auction house, but do a lot of NW Coast stuff, and seem to know a fair bit about it - I went down to Renton to view the items again, and attended online; did put in a few bids but everything went beyond my price range. Prices in general were quite high, in my opinion; I think the highest was $40K US for some of the Duane Pasco airport panels.
Found out that there were a total of three collections included in the auction; and regarding the Pancerzewski collection which I was familiar with, the Seattle Art Museum took about 2/3 of that collection before the remainder was auctioned, including all of the argillite and the Bill Holm mask mentioned above. They are planning to make a new exhibit around their acquisitions.

The Cheryl Samuels Chilkat blanket went for $32.5K, and the Delores Churchill dance apron for $15K.
