I am seeing much more of this and/or checking ebay for prices while in the store. On rare occasion, I have been known to do the latter. In general, the people doing this tend to focus on more modern and designer items from what I can see.

The ones that gripe me are putting things in a cart before checking them out and putting back the things they decide they don't want. The other issues is that they often park themselves and their cart in the aisle and block access. 9 times out of 10, the stuff is not of interest to me but I don't think it is right to monopolize merchandise while others are shopping.

Can't say this impacts me all that much. I can usually spot what I am after pretty quickly and breeze on through while they load their carts with what I consider junk. If they are in my way, I say excuse me and reach on past them for what I want. It happens so fast, they sometimes don't know what hit them.

When I go to estate sales and yards sales, everyone is checking things on their phone. I don't do it, because I have a limited idea of what is worth buying and I find the phone to be cumbersome. I have one friend from estate sales, I have known him for decades and he still does not use his phone. He knows his market and goes with this gut.

Yes, people block aisles all the time. Even at the market. And they are on their phones having loud conversations. Oh and my other gripe is at the market the person in front of me always forgets to put something in her cart, always, and has to go off the checkout line to find it. This is happening more and more and worse now because there are 1 or 2 check out people.

The jumble sales are happening! The lovely print is from a book published in 1700. Tourist portrait, paid £3 for both.
£10 for the heavy brass. £1 for pottery vase and pot stand. 50p for the cast iron trivet and £3 for the plated Vesta case.

I look up stuff but it's a very low number of items, per trip because I'm pretty good at knowing what's worth picking up at this point. I have a high return threshold on anything I might sell, so that cuts out a lot.

I will put things in my cart to consider so it gives me time to think about if I have space or it will work. I have absolutely gone over to another shopper who complimented something in my cart, to offer it to them if I decided against it though.

While I'm considering, I always find a spot that never gets much traffic, and if someone comes to that area, I immediately move for them. I HATE people who block shopping areas. I will absolutely invade their personal space to shop when they're rude like that.

I'm pretty quick in n out these days. I've got too much of everything so it's little that I'm looking for.

As I usually say, while the wanna-be resellers are looking things up on their phones, us old farts are eating their lunch!

a painting i bought on ebay yesterday (haven't recieved yet) that i thought looked old and interesting.

very odd looking monochrome colour scheme and tiny, unsure medium

thinking its been reframed at a later date

not sure what all that brown is about, are they brush strokes?, Varnish ?

looks some lovely detail in there though

    auction label on back ?

bought for a £10 offer, so a cheap gamble really

will post better pics when it arrives, but wondering thoughts

How was it inserted into the frame? And what did the seller have to say about it?

I'd be concerned about the speed with which it was painted.

not sure yet deb, the seller mentioned it was a scottish scene, but seemed rather clueless

i agree about the quickness of the brown strokes, looks very crudely applied. especially on the castle walls

It does look like a very specific landscape. Like this raised building with pier. (But not sure if that's even structurally possible.)

unless it was a wooden structure possibly

    its a hideous frame match

i'm guessing the brown is some kind of varnish that has probably darkened, but odd that its been applied like that

What would the pier's purpose be? An element of fantasy about it.

Needs a clean. I would suspect that the varnish has tarnished. :D But, I didn't have good results when I tried to clean cigarette smoke off a couple of modern paintings (cheap ones). Once clean, though, you might find a signature.
