Help with age & artist's name of painting?

    Hi all,
    I found this painting at my local thrift store yesterday (I've actually been good a out slowing down my art buying; I'm running out of roo.!) & decided to buy it because it looked nice & I could tell it had age (and the piece is heavy, which made me curious).
    Can anyone tell me how old it is (I saw the wood spacers & the nails holding the canvas to the frame)?
    Does anyone recognize or can make out the artist's signature?
    Any thoughts on it as art?
