Herbert Dickinson was apprenticed to William Hegley in 1811 and turned over to Thomas Potts in the Gunmakers Company in 1812. He established his own business in 1823 in Chamber Street, and moved in 1824 to High Street, Whitechapel. In 1846 he was recorded at Gloucester Street. From 1849 to 1857 he was at 2 Little Prescott Street. From 1858 to 1861 he was at 3 Little Prescott Street and 31 Frith Street, Soho.
