Hi all trying to see if anyone is familiar with something like this. My Dad has had it for years and his family passed it to him. I can not find out anything with my searches.

    Age, area, use, worth.

Looks like it is meant to hold an instrument of some kind. Doesn't look deep enough for a mandolin but that is the basic shape.

The round part wit the lid is not fluent with the neck. So you could not put a mandolin in it. The neck part is the housing for a drawer.

I think it's a hangs-around-holds-stuff table. Someone made it that shape because they felt like it, most likely. It's probably meant to hold a lamp, books, junk, etc, without much of an eye toward any particular purpose.

I can see now that it has a long skinny drawer that pulls out the end. Agree with evelyb that this is probably one of a kind. Have to think it is somehow music related. Maybe a companion table to hold music, strings, etc. and to practice/play by. The concave bottom is a bit of a puzzler. The rounded shape would not be conducive to hold just anything.

I get a musical vibe, too... maybe it's the clef-ish designs when seen from the side. Small drum? Tambourine? Short-stemmed lute?
    What a fun mystery.
Any back-story at all? Where did your dad get it?

He got it from a relative. I will see if he has more info. It is shaped like a mandolin and they have even painted the hole on the lid along with what looks to be a bull fighter. The neck or drawer area also has something painted on top. It has a heavy cracking varnish on it and the only marking is a "V" on the underside.

Here is another shot of the doves in the drawer.. The lines marking the doves is not ink or pencil but scribe with a tool.

What are the dimensions of this table, height and width? The table is certainly unique. If the table is short it might have been used to rest an instrument on it while playing it such as a slide steel guitar,

I don't know what to call the side supports. They really aren't a clef sign such as a C clef, G clef or F clef. I wonder if it was meant to be a lyre look. If so, they got the the top ends turned in the wrong direction and too many "S" curves and the curves are in the wrong direction.

Brilliant idea, Susan... the instrument rested on top, not within, maybe...

Custom folk-art table for storing cymbals and the stick/brush things to play them go in the drawer. Sheet music on the shelves. The cymbal stands fold up and go on the bottom shelf. And furthermore, the "V" is NOT a letter at all but is in fact a Roman numeral five! So there ya have it folks, the complete, correct, indisputable, and final interpretation. Now go to bed!

Of course the first owner was a percussionist and had similar, but larger furniture in which to store his other instruments. I was for base drum, II for tympani, III for left snare drum, IV for right one, and of course V for cymbals.

    Nobody's gonna buy this B.S.!

    W. 26"
    D. 12"
    Neck is 3.5 wide.

Additional information... Open scroll and flowers painted on neck. It has wooden wheels/casters on each leg.
