I've collected Viking themed objects since I was a kid, some of the early acquisitions were Viking ship open salts and spoons in pewter, and I added some silver over the years, but always kept an eye out for one in plique-à-jour. So when @kyratango posted a link to her hubby's Proantic shop, took a look, saw they had one by David Andersen, kept looking at it and finally dug out a David Andersen salt spoon I'd bought 25+ years ago for my Mom and held it up to the screen - I was sold. It was a great transaction, a beautiful piece, as I knew it would be, well packaged, and arrived in the US from France in a freakishly fast 4 days! https://www.proantic.com/galerie/le-bel-escargot/ (And thanks to @bercrystal for thinking of me when she saw it too!) Salt (2-3/8" wide): Spoon (1-1/2" long): Here are some other Viking ship salts and spoons from my collection: ~Cheryl
I was hoping you would show this piece when it arrived. & you were correct, the spoon you had is a wonderful match to the open salt. My favorite has to be the Th. Olsens one because of the pepper shaker which is just wonderful!! I would love to see your collection live & in person some day.
They all kind of have their own personalities, don't they? As much as I love the new guy, believe the tiny Henrik Møller pair is my favorite, the only other time I've seen them was a single set. I love his work and it's desirable, a Norwegian collector who saw mine told me, "These are rare as snowflakes in the summertime". Images of Henrik Møller silver: https://www.google.com/search?q=Hen...IAEGBgYCpgDAJIHBDE0LjagB8Zc&sclient=img&udm=2 Heh, I would too - virtually all my silver (and most other stuff) is packed away now, doing some renovations, hope to have the house redecorated and back to normal in a year or so, but suspect it may be a bit longer than that... ~Cheryl
Awww, thank you! Should say that this is a very small collection, I've seen much larger and finer collections, but I'm pleased with my choices over the years... ~Cheryl
Agreed with komo... I prefer a smaller, exquisite collection of only the best pieces. It allows them to stand out and wow. Nothing but winners. Are you an author or writing a book(s) because the photos look like they belong in one and obviously the depth of your knowledge and research is great.
Heh, not an author. Been buying, selling, collecting, and researching silver for decades, just a passion... ~Cheryl
Ooohhh, Cheryl! That is a perfect matching spoon I and Le Bel Escargot are so happy the plique Drakkar joined your amazing collection so quickly, if I had known you collected them and not "only" spoons, I'd have let you know we had it way before As others, I'm in delight with your post
Thanks for the compliments - glad you like them! Heh, how would you know, it's just a small collection, but the Viking stuff started a bit earlier than the obsession with silver spoons and other flatware - and there is a much larger collection of Viking themed spoons... ~Cheryl
LOVING everything about this post! A real community exchange, and enjoying seeing photos of these treasures!
